Self-Driving vehicles and delivery robots - why?
by FadeToBlack ini saw a 'news' article today about pizza hut (i think) delivering pizzas via a robotic vehicle in nz.
also another article headline saying it is not a question of if, but when.
my immediate thought was, why?

I'm involved with automation projects. And I've corrected my managers on a rather fundamental point of my objectives. When they have stated things like, "then we will need three fewer laborers," I've correct them and said, "no, those three laborers will be able to make far more parts per hour (because demand for our products continue to grow), and they will have a safer work environment and will have more time for quality inspections and cleaning projects."
While it is true that new automation can destroy some jobs and more money can go to equipment owners instead of human labor, my experience has been that I'm making a lot of money with my technical work with the equipment.

GB 1.0 had followed the eras of Russell, Rutherford, and Knorr. To be such a visible leader was to also have a giant target on you. Those GB weren't at all shy and retiring, but I think they realized that they didn't want the level of attention and scrutiny that would come with being "JW rock stars" like those previous presidents.
I don't think the current GB 2.0 realize this. The closest they've come has been with Jackson hauled before the ARC. This is their new reality. Now that they have plastered their names, faces, and voices on the Internet, advertised their current and future addresses, and done the same with their GB hamburger helpers, they have sealed their fate according to their own prophecies. If they really expect government to attack religion, the GB can expect to be the first ones trucked off to the concentration camps when their new headquarters will be turned into President Trump's rural retreat! LOL.

Talking to a wall

the other day, i had a conversation with my mother.
we started talking about the election and how the candidates differ (me being a supporter of bernie).

"I just wonder what will lead to the ban on all religion."
How prepared is Watchtower for this ban?
Is the top JW leadership prepared? Now that the GB and their hamburger helpers have plastered their names, faces, and voices on the Internet, along with their current and future addresses, it will be very easy for the government to round them up and truck them off to concentration camps before the government could start rounding up all the Catholic clergy. The GB have made themselves the "low hanging fruit" for any attack.
If this ban on religion is really expected, how prepared are middle managers of COs, elders, and MSs? The only type of training I might have ever received was to get together with my book study group for protection and direction. LOL that was trashed a long time ago because gasoline was too expensive for publishers to drive to book study! So in case of ban, JWs will have to report to the local congregation, the assembly hall, or the branch... get loaded into trucks by the police, and sent to concentration camps.
WT certainly isn't prepared financially for a ban. Now that publishers and congregations have been instructed to give all their ice cream money to the GB, it's very easy for all those assets to be seized. JWs would be far better prepared to endure such an attack if they had plenty of personal savings, professional trades, and survivalist training. Instead, some JWs have the emergency "go bags", but where will they go? To the closed branch? The burnt down Kingdumb Haul? A "worldly" Red Cross shelter?
A JW may think the Catholic Church would quickly crumble, but in reality it has additional institutions like schools and hospitals where it would continue to thrive. What do JWs have? Their cheesy website that would be blocked in a minute.

JW related collective nouns
by Simon inenglish is a great language, especially when it comes to collective nouns.
a "murder" of crows is just fantastic as is a "mob" of meerkats.

The memorial beauty pageant
by BlackWolf insince the memorial is coming up soon and its about time for me to go shopping for a new memorial ( aka easter) dress, i've realized what the memorial really is for us teenage girls, a beauty pageant!
the memorial is the day i spend painting my nails, curling my hair, and carefully applying makeup because my mother says i have to "represent jehovah" and look my best.
in reality its just to impress the newcomers and to compete with the other girls.

Hey, it's not just the sisters that spend hours getting gorgeous for the Memorial...
I had to take off the new suit jacket because I sweat profusely when the temperature in the Kingdumb Haul is above 61F (16C). Talk about hotness!

Dan Sydlik
by done4good inmorning warship - he was the only restraint and i'm not saying that lightly.
i know there are a dozen others here who were in bethel back in the early 2000's who know what i'm talking about.
he actually kept me thinking this was jehovah's org because of his sincerity as if the holy spirit was operating in him.

I liked Sydlik. While he came across as powerful with that booming voice, he had a hearty laugh and seemed to truly care about all of us. He had a way of making bethel really seem like a family. I remember several of his talks and comments where he expressed genuine appreciation for both the new members and the elderly in the family.
Many of us met him when we were still "new boys", and instantly liked him. It's been a while, so I can't recall and won't include the exact details of one situation I encountered. Since Morning Worship attendance was required, and you MUST be on time, it meant you had to get there early. And Dan was visiting my location and was quite early. Of course, the coffee was already brewed and waiting, long before morning worship. But it was forbidden to partake... except for Dan. Most of us already knew this custom, but when Dan poured his coffee, one of the new waiters said, "You're not supposed to have coffee before Morning Worship." Dan replied, "Who ya gonna tell?" Some time later, the stupid rule was officially dropped.
There were lots of other Dan stories like that. He seemed to like order and progress, but he didn't seem to care much for all the rules. And he really seemed to like people. We were really sad when his health problems came along and seemed to age him 20 years in the span of about 9 months or so.
Swingle was a character. I didn't know him as well, but heard interesting stories from others. Barber was really a character. A young bethelite asked Barber for advice about how to decide if the sister he liked was the right one... Carey told him, "well, take her to the beach and see what you've got!" Barry could be funny, too.
The one I completely disliked was Jaracz. I didn't like his wife either. GB 2.0 is "organization men" crafted mostly in his image.
